Bass weejun was formed in 1936 by George Henry Bass, a bootmaker from Wilton in Maine, USA. He began making a loafer modeled after the popular footwear of fishermen in Norway, the name weejuns was to acknowledge their heritage. During the 40’s and 50’s people began putting coins in the front of the shoe giving birth to the name penny loafer.
Many a celebrity over the years has worn the penny loafer from the likes of James Dean to JFK and in recent times Michael Jackson have sported Bass Weejuns, a true American Heritage brand. Over the past couple of years we have seen the rise of the loafer again with the preppy look for todays fashion conscious guy.
Bass Weejuns classically styled designer shoes are a regular at John Anthony. The Bass Larkin and the Bass Larson are some of our most popular loafers. The simplicity of the Larson or the tasselled detail of the Larkin. Classic and understated black or deep and interesting burgundy.
