BURBERRY BRIT HISTORY
Burberry was founded by Thomas Burberry in 1856, a truly British heritage brand that focused on outerwear throughout its early years using gabardine and hardwearing water resistant yet breathable fabrics. In 1914, the British War Office commissioned Burberry to adapt its officer’s coat to suit the conditions of contemporary warfare, resulting in the birth of the trench coat. Even today the trench coat is still a fixture in the current Burberry collections. Used as a lining for it trench coats the traditional Burberry check was introduced in the 1920s. In the early 1980s Burberry became a much sought after brand of choice for the soccer casuals movement and continued throughout the next decade being worn by members of Oasis and the Happy Mondays. It was later on that Burberry reinvented itself and brought in designer Chris Bailey who reshaped the company bringing a fresh feel and look across all product departments while still keeping the history of the brand at the forefront of the new format. Recently rebranded Burberry Brit is now on offer at John Anthony offering a wide selection of jackets, shirts, knitwear, polo shirts and accessories.
